The cases of seven defendants in the Gezi trial have been merged with the main trial in today's (April 28) hearing.

The cases of actors Memet Ali Alabora and Ayşe Pınar Alabora, novelist Handan Meltem Arıkan, Gökçe Tüylüoğlu, Hanzade Hikmet Germiyanoğlu, İnanç Ekmekçi and Can Dündar were previously separated because they are abroad.

While the defendants, who are charged with attempted overthrow, did not attend the hearing at the İstanbul 30th Heavy Penal Court, their attorneys were present in the courtroom.

The attorneys said they had nothing to state at this stage of the trial.

The court ruled for the merge of the cases with the main trial.

On February 18, 2020, the court acquitted Osman Kavala, Mücella Yapıcı, Can Atalay, Tayfun Kahraman, Ali Hakan Altınay, Yiğit Aksakoğlu, Yiğit Ali Ekmekçi, Çiğdem Mater-Utku and Mine Özerden.

The İstanbul Regional Court of Justice 3rd Penal Chamber on January 22 overturned the verdict of acquittal and ruled for the defendants' retrial.
